The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom state is mounting pressure on INEC to announce final results for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in Akwa Ibom State.
Recall that senatorial results of the area have been shrouded with anxiety due to purported defeat of APC’s Godswill Akpabio, who comes from the district by his opponent, Chris Ekpenyong of the PDP.
The State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Ini Emem Obong, in a press statement sent to journalists in Uyo, queried the rationale behind the announcement of the presidential results on the early hours of Monday in Uyo, while that of the senatorial seat that was held same day and time was yet to be announced.
He also called on security agencies to beef up security in Ikot Ekpene senatorial zone before, during and after the announcement of the results by INEC in order to forestall any eventuality that may erupt after the announcement.
The statement reads, “The collation of unit and ward results from Essien Udim local government area in the Presidential and National Assembly elections was undertaken earlier today(Monday) and winners emerged.
“The results from the presidential tally has been announced remaining that of the Senatorial and House of Representatives candidates.
We hereby demand that INEC should without further delay announce the results of the Senatorial District and House of Representatives. We also demand that security operatives provide sufficient cover for the movement and announcement , in the light of recent developments threatening the announcement.
“There is no need for any further delay.”
