Breaking: Lagos State House of Assembly Approves and Pass Amotekun Corps Bill Into Law

Lagos State House of Assembly at plenary on Tuesday passed the bill to create Amotekun Corps as a special unit of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps.

It passed the bill after taking the third reading of the amendment to the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps Agency Law 2019.

The Amotekun corp bill has passed through all the legal procedures and stages of reading(1st and 2nd readings), reports from Amotekun Corp committee, public consultations and hearing amongs other.

Amotekun had been supported by over 40 million Yoruba people and as a result, “It was deemed wise for the Amotekun bill to be favoured across Western Nigeria.

By the recommendations of Lagos State House of Assembly, only indigenes, or residents that have spent 20 years in the area and can speak the native language, will be members of the Amotekun corps.
