Coronavirus: INEC postpones Elections in 4 Senatorial Districts in 3 States

Following the pandemic Coronavirus which has eaten deeply into the microscopic arrangements of the world, has forced the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to postpone all plans to conduct by-elections in the four senatorial districts in Nigeria affected by death and transitional upward movement from the senatorial position to governorship and deputy governorship position respectively.

The National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye in a statement  said the electoral commission had received notifications of vacancies of the Bayelsa Central and West senatorial districts following the swearing into office of Senators Douye Diri and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo as governor and deputy- governor respectively.

According to Okoye, the commission also received notification of vacancies in  of Imo North  and Plateau South senatorial districts following the deaths of Senators Benjamin Uwajumogu and Longian Ignatius  Dalong respectively.

Okoye also made it known to pressmen that the Commission had concluded plans and readiness for by-elections to be conducted in these various senatorial districts across the three states of Imo, Plateau and Bayelsa states.

The statement according to Vanguard  also made it clear that the planned governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states will go ahead in September and October respectively.
