According to recent insight, President Muhammadu Buhari may have decided to consult with party leaders across the 36 states in constituting his next cabinet.
Sources close to The Nation, said the president is committed to working with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at all levels with the aim of carrying all interest groups in the party along.
One of the party’s sources said that APC is waiting to hear from the president soon on ways the party can contribute to the cabinet nomination process.
A state chairman of the ruling party also told The Nation correspondent that the party will play a very important role on the nomination of who gets into the cabinet.
“I and my colleagues have been told to be patient and await information on how those that will represent our states in the next Federal Executive Council would be selected,” he said.
He also added that for now, no one has asked the state for any nomination, saying that those throwing names around are only expressing their own wish.
“Those throwing around names are merely expressing their wishes as far as I am concerned,” he said.
“I can tell you that nobody has asked for nomination from our state as being speculated. Not even our governor has been contacted on the cabinet issue yet.
I can say this because our governor is new and he has been working hand in hand with the party since he was elected.
“I am in touch with my colleagues in other states and the situation is still that we are to await directive on the matter,” he said.
It was also gathered that some of the president’s former ministers are also lobbying coming back into the new cabinet on learning that the president will work with the party and not state governors.
“We now have many of them showing interest in what we are doing at the state level of the party. Something they didn’t do in previous years when they were ministers.
They have also become regular guests of some of our leaders here in the state.
We suspect that they are doing this because they see the possibility of the President requesting the party to contribute to the nomination process. But whatever it is, it is for the good of the party,” another source added.
