In the just concluded meeting on Thursday June 18 2020 between President Muhammadu Buhari and his Service Chiefs at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, the President acknowledged the efforts of the Service Chiefs towards tackling the security Challenges from activities of Boko Haram, banditry, other terrorists attacks. President Buhari declared their efforts not good enough.
Buhari warned Service Chiefs that he will not accept excuses from them further over the insecurity in Nigeria, especially those in Northereast and Northwest.
National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.), disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of a meeting Buhari had with the security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.
President Buhari has asked his service chiefs that he expected them,henceforth, to live up to expectations.
Remember on April 18 2020, around 12:30am and 3:am, more than 300 armed bandits killed at least 47 people in attacks on several villages in the northwestern Nigerian state of Katsina, as reported by the Katsina Police Spokesman Gambo Isah.
Also, on Monday June 1 2020, no fewer than 38 persons were killed in the night in separate attacks on two villages in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna state. “21 people were killed in Fadan Kashi while 17 people were killed in Nandu.”
Other many attacks unmentioned since 2015 since President Muhammadu Buhari took over from former president Goodluck Jonathan. Since 2015, the same Service Chiefs have been there appointed by the present administration.
This recent security Challenges has created a lot of concerns which has made cross section of the Nigerian populace to call for change of the service chiefs in order to resuscitate and rejuvenate the fight against terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria especially in Northeast and Northwestern Nigeria.
