According to the latest report, the President of the United States, Donald John Trump has been impeached by the House of Representatives.
He was impeached on the basis of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
The report disclosed that the House of Representatives voted almost entirely along party lines — 230-197-1 — to charge Trump with abuse of power, then a 229-198-1 vote to charge Trump with obstruction of Congress.
This makes Trump the third American President to be impeached in the history of the country, the other two are Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton.
Trump’s impeachment comes after a three-month inquiry following allegations that pressured Ukraine to investigate his political opponents by refusing to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House and withholding $400 million in US security aid.
The POTUS in his defense said he did not pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as he said he wanted him to combat corruption in the country before giving him the aid.
It is now left with the Republican-controlled Senate to hold a trial on whether Trump should be convicted and removed from office.
