In Benin, the capital city of Edo state yesterday, Motorists, passengers and passers by were all amazed and overwhelmed as a Hummer SUV car crashed into the fence of the Benin Monarch’s palace, Oba of Benin Palace at Ogogugbo, Benin City. To the overwhelmness and amazement of all, instead of the Fence to crash or get destroyed, the Hummer instead was seriously damaged but no life was lost.
The shock expressed by the passers-by and motorists was not on account of the crash. Instead, it was due to the fact that the impact on the wall by the Hummer left no damage to the ancient palace wall. Instead, the Hummer was severely damaged.
Note that the earthen (mud) wall of the Oba of Benin is one of the remaining relics of the old Benin Kingdom. The Oba Palace – together with the ancient Benin moats – is one of the numerous tourists’ attractions to the ancient city
