On Monday, Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun inducted the 20 local government chairmen who emerged victorious in the local government poll, held on Saturday, July 24.
A statement from the media office of the Governor, read; “While addressing the newly elected LGA chairman, the governor charged them to ensure they provide good governance at the grassroots.
“Furthermore, Governor Dapo Abiodun, who pointed out that the local government is not just a tier of government as stated in the country’s 1999 constitution, as amended, further tasked the chairmen to usher in a new vista of development in their various councils.
“He also appreciated the newly elected chairmen for making themselves available for service and most especially, for the entrenchment of good governance at the grassroots level.”
According to the statement, the governor noted them their victory at the poll is a combination of the confidence reposed in their individual abilities, the faith the people have in the party All Progressive Congress (APC) to provide the needed development and ensure individual prosperity for our people at the grassroots”.
“The governor advised the elected chairmen to bring a new vista of development to their people at the grassroots and also they must be inclusive, transparent, accountable, fair, equitable and must obey the rule of law.
“He also said they must provide good governance. Above all they cannot afford to turn themselves to Mr or Mrs I know it all.
“He instructed the newly inaugurated council bosses not to rely entirely on allocations from the Federal Government, but to generate funds internally, and incorporate the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model, without over-burdening the people, who according to him “are the essence and facilitators of your being in power,” the statement further read.
