Senate to tackle Insecurity by Restructuring Security Apparatus in Nigeria

As The 9th Senate led by Senator Ahmed Lawan resumes plenary session Tuesday, efforts are been put together by the Senate to tackle the problems of insecurity caused by the activities of Boko Haram, Fulani herdsmen, banditry, in Nigeria who delved into kidnapping and series of murders across the country.

The insecurity has been acknowledged by Senate President Ahmad Lawan who made the restructuring of Nigeria’s security apparatus call on Monday at a news conference held in Abuja while briefing journalists on what Nigerians should expect from the Senate as it resumes plenary on Tuesday after a six weeks recess(break).

According to the Senate president, the present security system did not appear to give Nigeria the type of outcome that was needed.

“Whether it is the federal, state or local government; even the traditional rulers or others, the most important thing is to secure the lives and property of Nigerians and we will do that.
“The legislature and executive must be forthright in the fight against insecurity in the country as there are so many happenings destabilising communities across the country.
“We have to be forthright; we have to say it as it is, and we have to do it as it is required to check insecurity.
Ahmad Lawan further acknowledged how the insecurity challenges have contributed in disabilizing communities and this is not a good story the senate president cried out.
Concluding, he vowed to work closely with the executive arm of government and other tiers of government(Federal, States and local governments) to ensure that change is made in the way we approach security issues in this country.
